Akai ito

La leggenda del filo rosso 赤い糸 (akai ito) del destino, è una credenza molto diffusa in Giappone, che si rifà a un’antica leggenda cinese. 
La leggenda narra che ognuno di noi nasce con un invisibile filo rosso legato al mignolo della mano sinistra. Questo filo ci lega indissolubilmente alla persona cui siamo destinati: il grande amore, per noi occidentali la nostra anima gemella. Le due persone così unite, sono destinate a incontrarsi, non importa il tempo che dovrà passare, le circostanze o le distanze che le separano. Perché, il filo rosso, sarà lunghissimo e fortissimo e non si spezzerà mai. Sarà lo stesso destino a tenerlo saldo e unito finché esse non s’incontreranno. 

Durante la Dinastia Tang, un tale di nome Wei, i cui genitori erano morti quand’era molto giovane cercò per tanto tempo una donna da sposare e con cui creare una famiglia, ma non ci riuscì. Una sera, arrivò nella città di Song e in una locanda un uomo gli disse che la figlia del governatore sarebbe stata la donna giusta. L’indomani mattina, Wei incontrò sui gradini di un tempio un vecchio che leggeva un libro in una lingua incomprensibile e gli chiese cosa fosse. Il vecchio rispose che lui veniva dall’aldilà e che era lì per occuparsi delle faccende umane, soprattutto dei matrimoni.
Disse a Wei che la sua anima gemella aveva solo tre anni ora e che avrebbe dovuto aspettare quattordici anni prima di incontrarla e averla tutta per sé. Così Wei, curioso, si fece accompagnare al mercato per vedere la sua futura sposa. Deluso dalla povertà in cui viveva la bambina, decise di ucciderla per essere sicuro di poter scegliere lui chi sposare. Mandò quindi un suo servitore ad accoltellarla e quando quello tornò, gli disse che l’aveva colpita in mezzo agli occhi. Wei proseguì più tranquillo la sua vita, dimenticandosi di quella storia. Trascorsero quattordici anni senza riuscire però a trovare una sposa adatta a lui. Ormai viveva nella città di Shangzhou, benestante, e il governatore di quella città gli offrì in sposa sua figlia. Finalmente Wei ebbe una moglie e incuriosito da una pezza che le copriva la fronte, le chiese dove si fosse procurata quella cicatrice. Lei rispose che all’età di tre anni un uomo cercò di ucciderla al mercato. Così Wei rivelò tutta la verità e capì che quel vecchietto del tempio aveva ragione: sin dalla nascita siamo destinati a qualcuno e che niente e nessuno può rompere quel legame.

Ultimo giorno ad Ocean City. Sono sopraffatta dalle emozioni tanto che potrei iniziare a ridere per poi ritrovarmi in lacrime in un batter d'occhio.
Questa è stata senz'altro la miglior estate di sempre. Passare tre mesi e più di settemila chilometri lontana da casa non è facile. È stata una sfida venir circondati da una lingua diversa, da una cultura diversa e da un sistema diversi da quello a cui sono abituata. Ma nulla è impossibile. Ci sono stati alti e bassi e ci sono stati momenti in cui mi sono sentita persa, ma sono felice di non aver mollato.
Tutto ciò non sarebbe stato possibile senza l'aiuto e la pazienza dei miei colleghi di lavoro, delle mie coinquiline, del mio landlord e landlady e della mia famiglia della OCBC. Mi mancheranno tutti.
È una sensazione strana: sono sia felice che triste di partire. Felice perché non vedo l'ora della nuova avventura che mi aspetta (domani m'imbarco direzione Florida) e triste perché odio gli addii. 
Forse per questo preferisco dire: SEE YA LATER!



Last day in Ocean City. I am overwhelmed by emotions. I could start by laughing and end up with crying in a blink of an eye.
This has been so far the greatest Summer ever. Spending three months and six thousand miles away from home is not easy. Being surrounded by a different language, a different culture and a different system made everything more challenging, but not necessarily impossible to overcome. There have been ups and downs and there were moments I felt lost but at the end I am glad I didn't give up.
THIS could have never been possible without the help and patience of my amazing co-workers (you all are amazing and it has been a honor working with you guys!), my beautiful roommates (I know I am not the easiest person ever), my helpful landlords, my church family (you really made Ocean City my second home) and every single person I have met this Summer. I will miss you all & you will never be forgotten.
I am both happy and sad to be leaving. I am happy because I can't wait for the next adventure and sad because I hate goodbyes.
That's why I'd rather say: SEE YA LATER!

31 Agosto.

Domani è il primo Settembre, giorno che per me ha sempre segnato un po' la fine dell'estate e l'inizio del periodo scolastico.
Rimarrò negli Stati Uniti ancora per un paio di settimane, prima di riprendere l'università ad Ottobre.
Posso solo dire che questi tre mesi sono stati per me ricchi di nuove esperienze che mi hanno anche dato la possibilità di crescere ed arricchirmi (in senso figurato) come persona e di incrociare il mio cammino con tanti altri volti nuovi. Le difficoltà non sono sicuramente mancate, ma è proprio il non essermi arresa dinnanzi ad esse che mi rende sempre più tosta ed orgogliosa del percorso che sto facendo.
L'estate è praticamente volata e mi dispiace solo di non esser riuscita ad aggiornare la pagina e il mio blog quanto avrei voluto, ma purtroppo tra il lavoro e il resto il tempo a mia disposizione è stato davvero ridotto. Ad ogni modo vedrò di preparare qualcosina, un post o un video (ancora non so bene di preciso), per riassumere al meglio queste settimane.

American Dream

Con oggi sono passate ufficialmente tre settimane dal mio arrivo negli States. Non sono riuscita a trovare del tempo per scrivere qui perché tra lavoro ed altri impegni non sono proprio riuscita a connettermi.
Mi trovo ad Ocean City, una località balneare del Maryland che si affaccia direttamente sull'Oceano Atlantico. Per un'amante del mare come me è decisamente il paradiso. Mi pesa perfino di meno dovermi alzare presto la mattina per andare a lavoro perché con la bicicletta posso percorrere la boardwalk che costeggia la spiaggia e lasciare che la brezza mattutina, unita al profumo dell'oceano, mi spettini i capelli.  È una sensazione indescrivibile e bellissima.
Mi sono adattata fin da subito allo stile di vita americano, complici anche le mie coinquiline e il nostro landlord che ci tratta un po' come se fossimo sue figlie. Stasera ha organizzato una festa in giardino per il 4 luglio: in programma ci sono barbecue, fuochi d'artificio e tanta allegria. La settimana scorsa ci ha invitate invece a fare una vera colazione all'americana con waffles, pancakes, patate dolci, frutta ed altre prelibatezze. Non essendo abituata a mangiare così tanto come gli americani ho preferito provare a piccole dosi un po' di tutto.
Ieri invece era il mio compleanno e dopo aver passato il pomeriggio a saccheggiare Tommy Hilfinger e Coach con la scusa che se non me li faccio io i regali ora che sono lontana da casa non me li fa nessuno, la sera io ed alcune amiche siamo andate a festeggiare al Seacrest, un locale davvero cool con una forte essenza Jamaicana. Ho girato per tutta la serata con una coroncina in testa (idea delle mie coinquiline che mi hanno detto che qui funziona così - fidati!) e ho perso il conto di tutte le persone che vedendomi mi hanno fatto gli auguri e hanno voluto scambiare alcune parole.
Le persone qui sono molto simpatiche e disponibili e anche con i colleghi di lavoro mi trovo benissimo. Parlo inglese dalle 6 alle 8 ore al giorno lavorando al Front Desk del Grand Hotel e sto acquisendo sempre più sicurezza e scioltezza nel parlare con gli sconosciuti. Punto a favore per vincere la mia immensa timidezza :)

Non vedo l'ora dei fuochi artificiali di stasera. Poi ora che ho trovato anche la canotta perfetta per l'occasione, sono pronta per festeggiare anche oggi!

Di nuovo in partenza.

In questi giorni mi sto preparando fisicamente e psicologicamente  ad un nuovo viaggio, ad una nuova avventura, che mi porterà per un paio di mesi dall'altra parte del mondo.
Ultimamente sono stata molto occupata tra università, esami, progetti ed incontri di vario genere, per cui per un paio di settimane ho lasciato il blog in 'pausa'.
Ma sto per ritornare ad aggiornare con nuove foto e spero nuove storie. Oramai manca davvero poco.
Vorrei condividere un pensiero che risponde alle numerose domande che mi capita di ricevere sul perché mi piaccia tanto viaggiare e sul perché sono sempre in giro. Questa è la mia risposta:

Il bello del viaggiare e di scoprire posti nuovi è che in ognuno di questi lasci almeno un pezzettino del tuo cuore, a tal punto da aver lasciato il cuore in talmente tanti posti che diventa inevitabile non sentirsi parte di qualcosa di più grande, sentirsi cittadino del mondo.

 In these days I am getting physically and psychologically ready for a new journey, a new adventure that will lead me on the other side of the world. I have really been busy lately because of university, finals, projects and meetings and that's the reason why I had to set my blog in the 'pause' mode. But now I am finally back with new photos and hopefully new stories. It's just about time.

I would also like to share my answer to all those people who keep asking me why I absolutely love traveling:

The best part of traveling and discovering new places is that you leave a tiny piece of heart in each place you visit, therefore it's absolutely normal to feel part of something bigger, to start considering yourself as citizen of the world.

Throwback to the day I met Miley Cyrus

Today I would like to write about the day I had the chance to meet Miley Cyrus.

I was just a 16een-years-old-girl who loved Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus' music and I was lucky enough to be invited to the Hannah Montana The Movie premiere in Rome the 20th April 2009. 
Since it was the very first time for Miley to come to Italy, I felt like I couldn't miss the chance to go to the premiere.
The previous day I arrived in Rome after an eight-hours-drive and arranged to meet a friend of mine after dinner. What happened next is history (just kidding :D ). We saw a couple of black Mercedes stopping not so far from where we were and found out Miley Cyrus, her sister Brandi and their dad Billy Ray Cyrus were actually in one of them because all the cars had the Hannah Montana logo printed on a sheet.
We really were beyond excited to meet her and she was very kind to take a photo with us, despite her tiredness for the long flight  (she had just came straight to the hotel from the airport). 
I also had the chance to talk a little with the movie director, Peter Chelsom, who was really funny and tried to spoke a little Italian with me.
The movie premiere was the following day and I remember how gorgeous Miley was in her violet dress and with her beautiful long hair (I still don't get why she had them cut so short).

I still remember those days with a smile, because after all, I really had a good time and met a lot of people.

My make up collection and storage

Being a huge fan of make up, I couldn't help myself with organizing my collection in the easiest way possible. If I have to be honest, I hadn't realized how much make up stuff I owned until I started picking up every single item from the many beauty cases I had in my closet to put it in order.

But first just let me tell you a story before showing you guys my make up collection and storage.

Bangor Reunion on Easter Saturday!

Buona Pasqua dolcezze! Vi auguro una giornata piena di amore e gioia! ♥

Ieri ho passato davvero una bella giornata con una mia cara amica inglese conosciuta quando ero a Bangor. Caso voleva che proprio per le vacanze di Pasqua la mia amica avesse deciso di visitare degli amici che vivono non lontano da dove sto io. Senza farmelo ripetere due volte abbiamo così colto l'occasione per rivederci e ho pensato di mostrarle la mia città natale, Trieste.
Nonostante il brutto tempo caratterizzato da un cielo coperto e pioggia, pare che la città le sia piaciuta molto.
Abbiamo passeggiato nel centro città dove le ho così mostrato Piazza Unità d'Italia (famosa per essere la più grande piazza d'Europa aperta direttamente sul Mare Adriatico), per pranzo siamo andate in un ristorante cinese e nel pomeriggio abbiamo fatto un po' di shopping. Mi sarebbe piaciuto poterle mostrare anche il Castello di Miramare, ma purtroppo il brutto tempo non me l'ha permesso. Sarà per la prossima volta. :)

Parlando di shopping, sono finalmente riuscita ad andare nel nuovo negozio della M.A.C Cosmetics che ha recentemente aperto proprio a Trieste. Non so dirvi quanto la cosa mi abbia resa felice, soprattutto considerando che per anni lo store più vicino era appena a Venezia e quindi andare lì ogni volta che mi serviva qualcosa rappresentava un bel problema (inoltre non mi piace acquistare fondotinta e prodotti vari per la pelle su internet perché prima di comperarli ho bisogno di provarli - e se sbagliassi completamente colore? Quello sarebbe un problema :p).

Abbiamo passato davvero un bel pomeriggio e sono felice d'aver potuto trascorrere del tempo con un'amica. Ogni tanto penso a quanto piccolo sia questo mondo. Chi l'avrebbe mai detto che dopo il mio Erasmus a Bangor l'avrei di nuovo rivista?
Stringere nuove amicizie con persone provenienti da varie parti del mondo è assolutamente una delle cose che più preferisco del viaggiare. ♥♥

Yesterday I had a very fun day with a dear English friend of mine I met in Bangor, who happened to be spending her Easter holiday at some friend's house, not so far from the town where I live. Thus, we took the chance to see each other and I decided to show her my hometown, Trieste. Despite the cloudy and rainy day,  she enjoyed the city as much as I do every time I go there.

We had a walk in the city centre where I showed her Piazza Unità d'Italia (very famous for being the largest seafront square in Europe), then we went to a Chinese Restaurant for lunch and did some shopping in the afternoon. I would have loved to show her Miramare Castle too, but the bad weather didn't allow me to do so. Miramare is at the top of my list for the next time though. :)

Talking of shopping, I finally had the chance to visit the new M.A.C Cosmetics store that has recently opened in Trieste. I am so happy since the closest store was only in Venice and I couldn't manage to go there every time I needed something (and I don't like buying foundations and skin products online as I want to try products before deciding if to buy them or not -- what if I bought a product that's darker than my skin? That would be a problem! :p). I also treated myself with an Easter gift: the 508 Nude Pink Design palette by Dior. 

We really had a lovely afternoon and I am so happy I could spend some quality time with a friend. Sometimes I feel like this world is really small. Who would have ever thought that after my Erasmus experience I would have met her again? Making new friends from all around the world is definitely one of my favorite perks of traveling ♥♥

Obsessed with Rose Gold, featuring Zoeva makeup

Sono una grande fan dei pennelli da trucco ed erano mesi che meditavo sull'acquisto di un set di pennelli Zoeva, soprattutto dopo averne sentito parlare e riparlare in maniera positiva ed essendo alla ricerca di un kit essenziale e poco ingombrante da poter portare con me in viaggio.
Così la settimana scorsa mi sono decisa ad ordinarli e proprio oggi mi è arrivato il pacco direttamente dalla Germania: si può iniziare una nuova settimana meglio di così? :)
Mi sono sentita come una bambina il giorno di Natale mentre aprivo la confezione e sono rimasta piacevolmente sorpresa dalla cura e attenzione con cui il mio ordine è stato incartato (Grazie Mudja e Natalia!).

I am a HUGE fan of makeup brushes and it's been months I've been meditating upon the purchase of a set of Zoeva makeup brushes, especially since I have been told so many positive things about this brand and being in the lookout of the perfect kit to take with when traveling.Therefore, the last week I decided to place my order and today I received the parcel straight from Germany: what a better way to start the week off, isn't it? :)I felt like a kid on Christmas day while opening the box and I was pleasantly surprised by the care and attention my order had been wrapped up (thank you Mudja and Natalia!).

Alzi la mano chi non ha ancora visto il nuovo film Disney Cenerentola!
Per celebrare l'uscita del film, la famosa marca tedesca di cosmetici e trucchi low-cost Essence Cosmetics ha messo in vendita per i mesi di Marzo ed Aprile l'edizione limitata Cinderella tutta dedicata ad una delle principesse più amate (e chiacchierate del momento).
Tra i vari brand low-cost Essence (assieme a Catrice) è uno dei miei preferiti ed essendo anche amante dei colori pastello questa nuova trend edition pareva fatta apposta per me! (Quasi quasi potrei, dico potrei, pensare di fare un video tutorial con questi prodotti...ma ci mediterò su per benino!).

...and then the Moon meets the Sun...

La prima eclissi solare che ho visto risale all'agosto del 1999, all'epoca avevo solo sette anni e mi trovavo a Pragelato (Torino) per il campo estivo. Gli occhialini che ci diedero all'epoca per l'evento e che conservo con cura da allora mi sono tornati molto utili in varie occasioni analoghe negli scorsi anni. 
Oggi 20 Marzo 2015 non s'è fatto altro che parlare di questa Eclissi Solare Totale. Evento più unico che raro considerando anche che cade proprio il giorno dell'Equinozio di Primavera, giornata magica per le persone a cui piacciono questi dettagli. Dicono che la prossima sarà appena nel 2081 quindi era un evento che non potevo perdermi e soprattutto non immortalare.
Devo dire che ho avuto abbastanza fortuna, il cielo era velato e sono riuscita a scattare alcune fotografie senza dover utilizzare filtri particolari (che poi mi sono sempre chiesta come si faccia a fotografare un'eclisse...sicuramente non con una macchinetta come la mia).
Ad ogni modo sono contenta del risultato e ho deciso di condividerlo qui sul blog.

Quella che appare come una mezzaluna è in realtà proprio il Sole, mentre veniva coperto dalla Luna. 
Mi vengono i brividi solo nel pensare a quanto grandi questi pianeti siano e a quanto piccoli e alla fine insignificanti siamo noi in loro confronto.
Mi viene così in mente un verso tratto dal primo capitolo del primo libro de La Bambina della Sesta Luna di Moony Witcher (alias di Roberta Rizzo), citazione che riporto qui sotto e con cui concludo questo post.

Noi, piccoli esseri dai cervelli grigi,

The first time I saw a Solar Eclipse I was just a seven-years-old girl who was spending her Summer holiday at the Summer Camp and who had never heard about such a fascinating event before. I still remember the day: 11th of August 1999. For that Eclipse I had been given a pair of special glasses I have used in these past years for similar occasions.

Today, March the 20th, you might have probably heard about the Total Solar Eclipse, who didn't? It was indeed a very unique and rare event because it also happened on Vernal Equinox. I am sure people who like magic and stuff were fascinated enough by this magical day. The next Solar Eclipse should happen in 2081, so I couldn't really miss the chance to take a picture of it (or at least I tried).

I was lucky enough - I must say - because the sky was a little cloudy so I didn't use special filters or stuff on my camera. However I am very curious to know how people take pictures of eclipses in a professional way. I am pretty sure their cameras are very big and expensive as well.

Anyways, I decided to share with you guys my shot of today's Eclipse.

What seems to be the Moon is indeed the Sun itself partly covered by the Moon. 

How cool is that?

A shiver runs down my spine overtime I think how big and wide the galaxy is and how small and insignificant are we compared to what's in the outside.

The day my new glasses matched with my tee.

È da gennaio scorso (ne avevo parlato qui) che sentivo il bisogno di un paio di occhiali nuovi per poter leggere e lavorare al computer. Negli ultimi tempi mi sono stancata parecchio a causa degli impegni universitari , in più i mal di testa causati probabilmente dal fatto che sforzavo troppo la vista nel lavorare al computer, nel leggere o addirittura nell'usare il mio cellulare, non mi aiutavano decisamente a studiare.
L'altro giorno sono quindi andata dall'ottico e alla fine mi sono presa un paio di occhiali nuovi, che dovrebbero quindi facilitarmi le cose.

Ho sempre avuto problemi nel trovare un bel paio di occhiali che mi stessero bene quindi ero un po' preoccupata...non vorrei mai indossare qualcosa che mi stia male! Fortunatamente ho trovato un paio molto carino che mi dà anche un'aria sofisticata (almeno credo!:p).
Ho scelto un paio di Marc by Marc Jacobs, di un colore bluastro tendente al color lavanda, che penso si abbini bene anche al colore dei miei occhi. Inoltre amo la forma delle lenti, ammetto di essere una fan degli occhiali grandi hehe :)

It was January already (you can read my post here) when I realized I would have probably needed a pair of glasses for reading and working with my computer. I've been very tired lately because of finals and assignments, and headaches didn't help me with my studying at all. All I knew is that I've been keeping forcing my eyes in the past weeks while working at my computer, reading a book or even when text messaging with my phone. 
Therefore, the other day I went to the optical and finally got a new pair of glasses, which should help me not to force my eyes too much anymore. 

I have always struggled with finding a good pair of shades because of the shape of my face and I was a bit worried about that (I wouldn't ever like to wear something that doesn't fit on me well), however I luckily found a pair which fits me well and gives me a kind of sophisticated look.
What I chose is a lovely pair in a bluish-violet shade by Marc by Marc Jacobs. Black glasses don't fit me well because of my fair skin, and I think these glasses pretty much match with my eyes color either. I also love their shape because I am a big fan of big glasses.

NIKE HAUL!

Giusto un paio di giorni fa mi ero resa conto che le scarpe da ginnastica che uso in palestra non mi andavano più molto bene perché vecchie. Ho così dato un'occhiata al sito della Nike per farmi un'idea dei prodotti e ho deciso quindi di recarmi allo store più vicino per qualche acquisto.

Sapevo già che oltre alle scarpe avrei avuto bisogno di un paio di leggings da palestra e di un reggiseno sportivo.

Come è facile immaginare, non appena ho messo piede in negozio mi sono sentita come una bambina in un negozio di caramelle e ho decisamente comperato (e speso) più di quello che avrei immaginato (ma per fortuna alcune cose erano in saldo in quanto della stagione passata).

A couple of days ago I realized I needed a new pair of trainers for the gym because the pair I was using was old and didn't properly sustain my feet anymore.
After having had a look at Nike's website, I decided to go to the nearest outlet store to do some "shopping". I already knew I would have also needed a new pair of tights/leggings and a sport bra, but especially a pair of cool training shoes.
Clearly, once I set my foot in the store, I felt like a kid in a chocolate factory and bought (and spent) more than I had previously planned (luckily I found some good deals and some stuff was on sale too).

Once upon a time there was a perfume bottle

 C'era una volta una boccetta di profumo...

Quanti di voi hanno mai finito un profumo e hanno buttato via la boccetta perché non sapevano che cosa farci?

Negli ultimi due giorni ho fatto ordine nell’armadio perché volevo sbarazzarmi di alcuni vestiti che non mi stanno più e perché entrambi i miei armadi avevano bisogno di venir riorganizzati (amo quando le cose sono al loro posto). Mentre pulivo, ho trovato una boccetta vuota di un profumo che i miei genitori mi avevano regalato per il mio 15esimo compleanno: si tratta With Love, primissimo profumo di Hilary Duff. Adoro questo profumo tanto che ne ho una seconda boccetta, comperata nel 2010 quando ero a Boston, che però uso solo per occasioni speciali. Ma che dire della boccetta in sé? Io trovo che sia davvero carinissima e infatti mi dispiaceva buttarla via, per questo l’ho tenuta nella sua confezione originale per anni, tra i vari maglioni che avevo in armadio.

Sapevo che ci avrei fatto qualcosa anche se non sapevo esattamente cosa…fino a ieri.

Ci sono moltissime cose che si possono fare con le boccette vuote dei profumi: se l’apertura è grande abbastanza, le si possono usare come contenitori per piccoli oggetto come ad esempio gioielli. Non nel mio caso però, dato che l’apertura non è sufficientemente ampia nemmeno per un piccolo anellino. Le boccette possono venir usate anche come piccoli contenitori per la cucina, centritavola per occasioni speciali oppure per contenere dei profumatori d’ambiente. Ancora meglio, si possono riempire le boccette di profumi fatti in casa, organici oppure acquistati.

Nonostante le diverse idee di riciclo, io ho deciso di optare per un vasetto carino dove metterci dei fiori.

Realizzarlo è stato davvero semplice:

con delle pinze ho tolto con attenzione la parte superiore con il tappo, dopodiché ho pulito il vetro con un panno imbevuto d’alcool. Per precauzione, mio papà mi ha inoltre aiutata nel limare l’apertura della boccetta siccome il vetro era un po’ tagliente. Dopodiché ho preso un laccetto rosso e dei fiori finti (dell’epoca di quando facevo danza classica, li avevo indossati per uno spettacolo quando avevo 5 o 6 anni) e li ho sistemati per benino nella boccetta vuota.

Trovo che questa sia un’idea di riciclo molto semplice e carina e il risultato è senz’altro sfizioso e in qualche modo elegante.

 How many of you have ever finished a perfume bottle and threw it away because didn't know what to do with it?  In the past two days I have been cleaning up my closet because I wanted to get rid of the clothes that don't fit anymore and because both my wardrobes needed a fresh re-organization (I love when my stuff is neat). While cleaning, I found this old and empty scent bottle my parents bought me for my 15th birthday: With Love by Hilary Duff. I absolutely love this perfume and that's why I own a second bottle (bought in 2010 when I was in Boston). I rarely use it though - only for special occasions. But what about the bottle? It is so cute and fancy I didn't feel like throwing it away and that's why I have kept it in its original box among jumpers for years.
I knew I would have done something with it, I just didn't know exactly what... until yesterday.There are multiple things you can do with your empty perfume bottles: if the openings are large enough, you can also use them for containers for small objects like jewelry. Not my case though, as the bottle is not that large enough even for a small ring. You can even use them for kitchen containers, centerpieces for special occasions or to contain homemade room sprays. Better yet, you can fill the bottles with homemade, organic or purchased perfumes.Despite the multiple recycling ideas, I came up with this one: what about a cute flower or bud vase?
It was really easy to do. All I did was taking carefully the cap off with tweezers, then I cleaned the bottle with a clean cloth soaked in rubbing alcohol. My dad helped me with smoothing the bottle opening as it was a little sharp (as a precaution). Then I took a cute red lace and some fake flowers (from my ballerina's old times - I wore them for a ballet performance when I was 5 or 6) and put them in the perfume bottle.I think this is a very easy and cute way to recycle an old perfume bottle and to make something fancy and somehow classy.

Throwback: the day I met Fred and George Weasley

Il throwback di questa settimana riguarda la volta che ho avuto l'occasione di incontrare Oliver e James Phelps, meglio conosciuti per il loro ruolo di Fred e George Weasley nei film di Harry Potter.
I gemelli erano tra gli ospiti del Lucca Comics & Games dello scorso 28 ottobre 2011.
Ricordo che avevo passato cinque lunghe ore in fila, ma n'è decisamente valsa la pena dato che sono riuscita a farmi autografare la Mappa del Malandrino con tanto di dedica (avete capito proprio perché la mappa e non una fotografia o un pezzo di carta qualsiasi?) e a stringere la mano ad entrambi.
Ho passato davvero dei bei momenti, ero vestita come una Grifondoro (anche se quel giorno mi fu detto più volte che sembravo Luna, forse perché sono una Corvonero ma al tempo non lo sapevo?), ho incontrato nuove persone con cui ho passato il tempo chiacchierando.
A volte, ripensando a quel giorno, penso a quanto sia stata fortunata ad incontrare qualcuno che ha preso parte a qualcosa di grande che ha segnato la mia infanzia-adolescenza, qualcosa come i film di Harry Potter...voglio dire, voi non sareste felici?
Io attendo ancora il giorno in cui avrò occasione di abbracciare Emma Watson, è tipo il mio sogno da quando avevo 9 anni. Chissà. :)

This week's throwback is about the day when I had the chance to meet Oliver and James Phelps, best known for their Fred and George Weasley roles in the Harry Potter movies.
They were the special guests for the Lucca Comics & Games event. It was the 28th of October 2011.
I remember I was in queue for about five long hours. Totally worth the 40 seconds where I had the chance to get my Marauder's Map signed (see the connection why the map and not a regular piece of paper or a photo?) and shake both the twins' hands.
I really had a great time, dressed up like a Gryffindor (even though I had been told I looked like Luna Lovegood --maybe because I am a Ravenclaw but I didn't know at that time?), and met new awesome people I spent the time talking with while waiting for the twins. 
Sometimes, when I think of that day, I feel very lucky for having had the chance to meet some of the people who took part of big thing like the HP movies...I mean, wouldn't you be happy for that? However, I stil wait for the day I will have the chance to hug Emma Watson, it's one of my dreams since I was like 9. Who knows. :)

Ho passato proprio uno splendido weekend.

Il posto era veramente calmo e stupendo, in un posto chiamato Cavallino Treponti in provincia di Venezia, con vista sul Mare Adriatico, perfetto per la meditazione.

Il tema di questi giorni era una citazione dell'ultimo libro del Nuovo Testamento: "Ecco, faccio nuove tutte le cose!" (Apocalisse 21:5).

In questi giorni ho imparato a guardare alle cose in maniera diversa e ad aprire il mio cuore al creato. In più ho potuto riabbracciare amici a me molto cari dopo del tempo e non potrei essere più felice di così per questo :)

What an amazing weekend I had.
The location was so peaceful and stunning, in a place called Cavallino Treponti near Venice, with a beautiful view in front of the Adriatic Sea, perfect for meditation.
The main theme of these days is a quote from the last book of the New Testament: "I am making everything new!" (Rev 21:5)
In these days I learnt how to look at things in a different way and how to open the eyes of my heart and to finally hug some dear friends of mine after a long time and I couldn't be happier for that! :)

Throwback to Summer 2010

A volte sembra passato tanto tempo, altre volte sembra solo ieri. Eppure sono già cinque anni da quando sono stata a Boston, città che mi ha colpita sotto molti aspetti e che spero di rivedere presto.
Come primo #ThrowbackThursday del mio blog ho scelto proprio questa foto, scattata nella via a West Roxbury dove ho vissuto quell'estate del 2010. :)

Sometimes it looks like ages ago, sometimes it looks like it were yesterday. But it's been five years since the last time I've been to Boston, where a little part of my heart still stays there. I really hope to come back soon. 
This is my first #ThrowbackThursday and I thought about posting this picture, taken down the street in West Roxbury where I spent my Summer in 2010.

Blue Monday? Blame the Dementors!

Se devo essere sincera, non avevo mai sentito parlare del Blue Monday prima d’allora. 
Chi ha bisogno di sentirsi dire in che giorno essere triste e in che giorno essere felice?!

Oggi ho quindi deciso di affrontare la giornata come al solito, e cioè con un bel sorriso, anche se l’unica cosa non molto felice è che ho passato questi ultimi giorni a rovinarmi la vista studiando fino alle 5 del mattino (viva la sessione d’esami invernale insomma!). Probabilmente avrò bisogno di un paio di occhiali da lettura/computer (e ho già iniziato a cercare un paio carino); per il momento sto usando un paio di colore rosa-rosso (fa pandant con i miei capelli insomma) che mi erano stati prescritti quando avevo solo sette anni (e si, mi stanno ancora! beh, più o meno), mai indossati perché in realtà non ne avevo veramente bisogno. 

Comunque sia, come ben saprete sono una Potterhead molto particolare e per questo mio essere tale, sono convinta che il Blue Monday sia soltanto una scusante Babbana, dato che i Babbani non possono vedere i Dissennatori e non saprebbero quindi spiegare la cosa differentemente: capite la connessione? 
Blue Monday = Tristezza = Dissennatori. 
Per me ha assolutamente senso!

BABBANI —tutto quello di cui avevate veramente bisogno per affrontare questa fredda e nuvolosa giornata invernale era una tavoletta di cioccolato! L’avreste mai immaginato? 
Nessun trucco, sono semplicemente sincera. La cioccolata risolve (quasi) tutto e sa sempre tirarti su di morale!

A proposito, oggi non è solo il Blue Monday ma è anche il BEAUTY&STYLE MONDAY per il mio blog! Quindi un paio di paroline sono d’obbligo (almeno ci provo!) :)

Oggi ho deciso di arricciare leggermente i miei capelli con il mio arricciacapelli (non ho idea di che marca sia, so solo che c’è un logo della serie tv Desperate Housewives), perché mi piace quando i miei capelli sono morbidi e non scompigliati come al solito. A proposito, il colore rossastro dai miei capelli ha iniziato a schiarirsi e non potrei essere più felice di ciò (vi chiedete perché? Leggete QUI del mio dye-saster!).  Mi piace il risultato ma ogni volta tra l’asciugarli ed arricciarli ci impiego più di un’ora quindi non succede spesso per mancanza di tempo. 
Oggi ho inoltre optato per un trucco leggero (quello che faccio quotidianamente, un giorno potrei eventualmente fare un video - non appena deciderò di sistemare il mio canale YouTube), anche perché non c’è bisogno di un trucco esagerato quando si tratta d’andare in biblioteca a studiare :p

Oltre ai miei adorati jeans Hollister, ho inoltre indossato una camicia della Benetton, un cardigan grigio a V di Zara e una collana di Forever21 (adoro le collane che vanno portate con le camicie!) e ovviamente la mia sciarpa Grifondoro (anche se sono orgogliosa di essere Corvonero, stando al Cappello Parlante di Pottermore, ogni tanto mi sento più Grifondoro e oggi era uno di questi giorni. Dovrò comunque procurarmi una sciarpa Corvonero, queste sciarpe sono troppo belle e calde!).

Ora torno sui libri che è meglio!

If I have to be completely honest, I had never heard about the Blue Monday thing before.

Who needs to be told in what day we should feel sad and in what day we shouldn't? Seriously?!

Despite this, I decided to face up the day with a smile as usual, even though the only "not-very-happy" thing I have been doing in these last days is been  ruining my sight studying until 5 in the morning (it's finals time, yay). Yeah, I will probably need a pair of optical glasses (I have already started looking for a nice pair) --now I am using my very old ones in a pink-reddish shade (it matches my hair) I had been prescribed when I was seven years old (yes they still fit!), never really worn because I didn't really need them. lol

Anyways, as you probably well known, I am a peculiar Potterhead and because of that I firmly believe Blue Monday is just a Muggle name because Muggles can't see Dementors and wouldn't be able to explain this differently: do you see the connection? 

Blue Monday = Sadness = Dementors. 

That makes perfect sense to me, doesn't it? 

MUGGLES -- all you really needed to face up this cold and cloudy Winter day was a chocolate bar. No tricks, just being honest. Chocolate solves (almost) everything and always cheers you up.

Speaking of which, today is BEAUTY&STYLE MONDAY (not only Blue Monday), so let's talk a little bit about beauty and style (or at least let's try!).

Today I decided to slightly curl my hair with my curly iron (don't know the brand, it has a Desperate Housewives logo on it though), because I like my hair to be more soft and not ruffled as usual (lol). By the way, the red color started fading out and I couldn't be more happier for that (don't know why? Read about my DYE-SASTER!). I like the result but it always takes me more than one hour to dry my hair and then style it, so that's the reason why this doesn't often happen.

Besides,  for today I put just a little make up on (I would call it my daily make up --once I will decide to start putting videos on YouTube, I might film one about it), because there's no need to put too much make up especially if you go to the library for studying. :p

Today, in addition to my Hollister's Jeans, I also wore a shirt from Benetton and a basic grey V neck cardigan from Zara and put a nice necklace from Forever21 on (I just love necklaces that match with shirts!). And of course my Gryffindor scarf hehe. (Even though I am a very proud Ravenclaw - according to Pottermore's Sorting Hat - sometimes I feel more Gryffindor and today was one of those days BUT I absolutely need to own a Ravenclaw scarf, these scarves are too nice and warm!).

Off to books now!

Let's be more organized.

Uno dei miei buoni propositi per l'anno nuovo è di essere una blogger decente, quindi ho deciso di organizzare i miei post principali secondo sette diverse categorie, una per ogni giorno della settimana. Inizio Lunedì prossimo.
So bene che probabilmente non riuscirò a scrivere ogni giorno (però ci proverò), ma almeno facendo così cercherò di essere più costante e meno imprevedibile su cosa andrò a parlare nei miei post.
Mi è stato detto diverse volte che sono una persona eclettica, siccome ho molti interessi e sono curiosa per natura, ma non penso che questo sia necessariamente un difetto, no? :)

Quali sono i vostri buoni propositi per l'anno appena iniziato?

Tra l'altro ho appena sistemato la grafica del blog, con un look un po' più semplice ma al tempo stesso d'effetto. Vi piace? Qualche consiglio?
Sono sempre aperta nell'accettare consigli e pareri, non si smette mai di imparare e di voler migliorare!

As one of my New Years Resolutions was to be a decent Blogger, I decided to organize my main posts into seven different categories, one for each day of the week. I am starting on Monday.
I know I won't probably blog every single day (although I will try), but at least I am trying to be more constant and less unpredictable about my posts, maybe. 
I've been told I am an eclectic person and I totally agree with that: I have indeed too many interests and I am curious by nature, but this shouldn't be a weakness, should it? :)

What are your New Years Resolutions for this 2015?

 By the way, my blog got a style restore! Its look is simple but nice. Do you like it? Any comments?I am always open when it comes to suggestions, you never really stop learning and improving! 

Pumpkin Pasties Recipe // Ricetta Zuccotti di Zucca

Proprio l'altro giorno mi è capitata tra le mani una zucca dell'orto di casa e mi sono chiesta che cosa mai avrei potuto prepararci. Mi è così venuta un'idea: perché non provare a preparare gli ZUCCOTTI DI ZUCCA (Pumpkin Pasties in inglese), celebre dolcetto che ogni studente di Hogwarts (e non solo) conosce e sicuramente ha imparato ad apprezzare anche grazie ai libri di J. K. Rowling??
Mi sono così messa al lavoro e ho ottenuto dei dolcetti davvero sfiziosi e saporiti, perfetti da gustare assieme al tè delle cinque. ♥
La quantità di zuccotti che ho sfornato tra ieri ed oggi equivale a sfamare un'intera squadra di Quidditch (la mia zucca era piuttosto grandicella, sui 750 grammi circa, e ho dovuto utilizzare ben sette confezioni di pasta brisée!) Cercherò tuttavia di indicarvi le dosi per poter preparare 10-12 zuccotti, se poi ne vorrete di altri basterà vi basterà raddoppiare gli ingredienti. 

PRONTI? SI COMINCIA! :)

It was just the other day when I found at home a pumpkin from my garden and I started wondering what to do with it. Thus I had an idea: what about PUMPKIN PASTIES? They are a very famous treat among Hogwarts students and everyone who read the Harry Potter books might have heard about it.

Those pasties are very funky and delicious and are well matched with a cup of hot tea. ♥

In the last twenty four hours I have prepared enough Pumpkin Pasties to feed a whole Quidditch team (my pumpkin was indeed quite big — about 750gr, and I had to use about seven packets of crust pastry). However I will give you instructions to prepare 10-12 Pumpkin Pasties. If you want more, all you have to do is to double the ingredients.  

 READY? LET'S START!  :)

Datemi il nome di una ragazza che non ha mai cambiato nulla dei suoi capelli!
È molto comune tra le ragazze cambiare taglio o colore di capelli, specialmente quando vogliono iniziare un nuovo capitolo della loro vita. Dovrebbe esserci anche una citazione di non so chi in merito, ma sono troppo pigra per Googlare. O:)

A new haircut or a new hair color is very common among girls, especially when they feel like they (usually) want to start a new chapter of their life.

Un po' di casa.

Finora ho sempre scritto il mio blog in italiano, nonostante ciò ho deciso per il nuovo anno di scrivere sia in italiano che in inglese, così da poter dare la possibilità anche ad amici che non parlano l'italiano di leggere e capire di cosa parlo (soprattutto dopo che un'amica mi ha detto che avrebbe usato Translate --no no no non mi piace).

So far I have always written my blog in my mother tongue --Italian. Nevertheless, for the new year I decided to start writing in both Italian and English, so this might help some friends of mine who don't speak Italian but would like to read and understand what I talk about.
